About this role

Hill International is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee and manage a team of individuals while providing construction and project management services to our client in Cleveland, OH. This role involves leading staff including Project Engineers, Field Inspectors, Document Control Support, and other support personnel. The position requires maintaining strong communication with the Client’s Project Manager, support staff, local authorities, Design Project Manager, and Contractor management.

Day-to-day responsibilities include administering the construction contract, reviewing work for compliance with contract documents and specifications, and conducting job progress meetings. Proactively review contract documents to anticipate conflicts, prepare change orders, and recommend improvements. Ensure jobsite safety by observing operations, making recommendations, and taking corrective actions as needed.

Perform field inspections to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and agreements, while reviewing contractor submittals for completeness and coordination. Prepare reports, maintain project records, document field activities, and review CPM schedules to identify and mitigate risks. Complete daily diaries of activities, discussions, and progress with construction teams.

Conduct interim and final inspections, develop punch lists per contract requirements, and expedite contractor completion of punch list work. Document as-built conditions of constructed work. The role supports a collaborative environment with clients, contractors, and authorities in building construction and renovation projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in construction management of building construction and or renovation projects
  • Proficient understanding and ability to interpret written specifications, plans, and construction documents
  • Strong critical thinking and creativity skills along with the ability to exercise sound judgement by making decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and people management skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage staff, including Project Engineer, Field Inspectors, Document Control Support, and other support staff
  • Maintain communication with the Client’s Project Manager, Client’s support staff, local authorities/agencies, Design Project Manager and Contractor management staff
  • Administer the construction contract and review work for compliance with the contract documents and all governing specifications
  • Conduct job progress meetings and other project related meetings as required
  • Ensure safety on the jobsite by observing contractor operations, making recommendations, and taking corrective action when necessary
  • Perform field inspections of contractor’s work to determine compliance with plans, specifications, special provisions, utility agreements
  • Review CPM schedule and identify and mitigate project risks
  • Conduct interim and final inspections of the construction and develop punch lists based on the requirements of the contract documents
