About this role

Colas Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a Site Agent to join the team on a 16-month fixed-term contract based in Rothbury Terrace, Heaton, Newcastle. The role ensures safe and efficient delivery of all secured works. It manages key client expectations with ongoing liaison while complying with quality procedures and safe practices to the highest health, safety, and environmental standards.

Oversee the safe and efficient delivery of projects, particularly in Winter Maintenance Operations and Structures and Maintenance operations. Manage financial performance of contracts to ensure completion to budget. Maintain strong client relationships through regular meetings and site visits, while checking and signing site records and timesheets within required timescales.

Thoroughly manage labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors for planning, order placement, and availability. Assist with development and updating of regular activity programmes in line with client requirements. Ensure safety and welfare of all operatives through safety observations, toolbox talks, and compliance with method statements, risk assessments, and CDM regulations.

Supervise subcontractors with proper induction and training for all personnel. Uphold discipline within the business ensuring company compliance. Promote a culture of safety and adherence to company procedures in a dynamic team environment.

Strong commercial and contractual awareness supports effective management of site and office duties. Opportunities for ongoing personal and professional development enhance expertise in highway construction and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Relevant ONC/HNC/HND qualification in Construction or Civil Engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • High level of expertise in highway construction and maintenance, including experience in Winter Maintenance Operations and Structures and Maintenance operations
  • CSCS Professionally Qualified card
  • SMSTS/IOSH (Safety Related Qualification)
  • Full clean driving license
  • Strong knowledge of business management systems
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Project to track performance

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe and efficient delivery of projects, particularly in Winter Maintenance Operations and Structures and Maintenance operations
  • Manage the financial performance of contracts, ensuring work is completed to budget
  • Maintain strong client relationships through regular meetings and site visits
  • Ensure all site records and timesheets are checked, signed, and issued within required timescales
  • Thoroughly manage all labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors allowing planning, order placement, and availability when required
  • Assist with the development and updating of regular activity programmes for all contract responsibilities in accordance with client requirements
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of all operatives, conducting safety observations and delivering toolbox talks
  • Ensure compliance with method statements, risk assessments, and all CDM regulations while supervising subcontractors
