About this role

The Quantity Surveyor supports commercial management and financial control of multi-utility projects across gas, water, power, and telecoms. This role ensures effective cost management, contract administration, and commercial governance to deliver projects on time and within budget. The QS works closely with project, finance, and client teams.

Day-to-day involves assisting in contract preparation, negotiation, and administration while complying with company policies and legislation. Support commercial strategies for municipal projects and provide input on risk, opportunity, and value to project teams. Monitor costs against budgets and prepare payment applications, valuations, and variations.

Administer contracts per terms like NEC, JCT, or bespoke forms and assist in resolving disputes, claims, and final accounts. Build relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and internal teams. Represent IES Group in commercial discussions and provide reports to management.

Success measures include delivering projects within budget, accurate reporting of performance and risks, and positive feedback from clients. Contribute to resolving commercial issues and enhancing IES Group's reputation as a leading multi-utility provider. Growth comes through effective commercial support and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the utilities sector (gas, water, power, telecoms) or similar infrastructure environment
  • Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying with at least a years experience
  • Knowledge of contract law, commercial management, and cost control
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, negotiation, and administration of contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant legislation
  • Support the implementation of commercial strategies for all municipal projects
  • Provide commercial input to project teams on risk, opportunity, and value
  • Assist with cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting for projects
  • Prepare and submit applications for payment, valuations, and variations
  • Monitor project costs and performance against budgets, reporting variances
  • Support the administration of contracts in accordance with their terms and conditions (e.g., NEC, JCT, bespoke forms)
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and internal teams
